Let me introduce myself

In 2019, I was oblivious to the fact I was losing my hair. The only indication that something was amiss came from a hairstylist who suggested I take biotin because my locs could be thicker.

Hi there. I'm Maya Lisa Johnson – a writer, entrepreneur, and advocate for Black women’s health whose personal journey with central centrifugal cicatricial alopecia (CCCA) transformed the way I approach beauty, self-worth, and healing.

After lifelong struggles with accepting my natural hair and later the shocking discovery of my own hair loss, I began exploring the deeper layers of identity, trauma, and resilience tied to Black hair.

My soon-to-be-published memoir chronicles that transformation – from pain and fear to acceptance and empowerment – while amplifying the voices of millions of Black women navigating similar paths.

And through my online platform, CCCA Chronicles, I share stories, insights, and resources to remind other Black women that they are not alone on the journey toward self-acceptance, healing, and wholeness.
